'Love Story' star has cancer
Actor Ryan O'Neal has been diagnosed with cancer. The "Love Story" star, who turned 60 on April 20, recently was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia and is undergoing treatment in the Los Angeles area, his agent, Deede Binder, said Wednesday. "It's treatable. It's not life threatening at all. He's doing great," Binder said.
The actor was involved with Farrah Fawcett for 15 years before a split in 1997. They have a son, Redmond, who is now a teen-ager. He also is the father of actress Tatum O'Neal, his co-star in the 1973 movie "Paper Moon," for which she won an Oscar for best supporting actress.
Do as I say, not as I do
Being an actress is a tough business even cruel, sometimes, says Uma Thurman. That's why she doesn't want her 3-year-old daughter, Maya, to consider an acting career until she's 21.
Thurman began her career when she was 15. "That's why I won't let her do it. I know better," the 31-year-old actress said.
Her films include "Dangerous Liaisons," "Pulp Fiction," and "The Truth About Cats & Dogs."
Since her marriage to actor Ethan Hawke, and motherhood, "I have come to appreciate my work even more than I did before because I now do it really for the love of it. It's not just my life's mission, work now is a thing of choice and tremendous devotion."
People names 'Beautiful People'
Don't hate them because they're beautiful. Don't even hate them because they're People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People in the World." Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones appears on the cover of the annual issue, which hits newsstands Friday. Julia Roberts made the list for the sixth time, Halle Berry for the fifth time and George Clooney for the fourth. More than half the celebrities on the list 32 are actors or actresses.
First lady Laura Bush is on the list, as is U.S. Navy pilot Shane Osborn, mission commander of the spy plane crew that was held for 11 days on a Chinese island last month. Others include Renee Zellweger, Heather Locklear, Kate Hudson, Chow Yun-Fat, Hugh Jackman, Jill Scott, Ed Harris, Kelly Ripa, Jude Law, Faith Hill, Colin Firth, Katie Couric, Taye Diggs, Benicio Del Toro, Debra Messing, Jeff Probst and, yes, Jennifer Lopez.
'West Wing' creator in court
Aaron Sorkin, creator of the Emmy-winning show "The West Wing," pleaded innocent to drug charges Wednesday and issued a statement saying he hopes his actions will not reflect poorly on his colleagues.
Sorkin, 39, was arrested at Burbank Airport on April 15 after security officers found what they said was a bag of drugs in his luggage. Prosecutors charged him with two felony counts of drug possession one for hallucinogenic mushrooms and one for rock cocaine along with one misdemeanor count for marijuana.
