Supermodel undergoes surgery
Supermodel Niki Taylor, 26, underwent several hours of surgery Wednesday as doctors struggled to repair internal injuries caused by a car accident. Taylor has been in critical condition in Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital since the Nissan Maxima in which she was riding hit a utility pole early Sunday. She suffered severe liver damage and possible lung damage.
The driver, Chad Renegar, and another passenger suffered only minor injuries. Renegar said he looked down to answer his cell phone and ran off the road. Taylor's family is hoping she will stabilize after the surgery, her publicist said.
To all the girls he's loved
Spanish crooner Julio Iglesias is a papa again. The 57-year-old singer's longtime girlfriend, Miranda Rijnsburger, gave birth Tuesday at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami to twin daughters, Victoria and Cristina, bringing their brood to four. They already have two sons, ages 2 and 3. Iglesias, is also the father to three adult children.
Hefner home in the clear
Neighbors' charges that Hugh Hefner is running a commercial party business out of his famed Playboy Mansion have been rejected by Los Angeles officials who say they inspected "every square foot" of the place without finding anything illegal going on. Wednesday's announcement ends a nine-month city investigation. But it is unlikely to end the controversy over the nighttime soirees staged at Hefner's 31-room Tudor-style Holmby Hills estate.
In complaints filed with the city, nearby homeowners contended Playboy Enterprises Inc., which owns the mansion, had turned it into a money-making business. Playboy officials denied that their corporation or Hefner profited from outsiders' use of the mansion, where the founder of the men's magazine has lived for three decades. They argued that the Playboy Mansion is a swinging bachelor's pad, not a business. City zoning investigators agree.
Country singer stopped for DWI
Country singer Terri Clark was charged with drunken driving after a police officer stopped her for speeding. Clark, who was stopped Tuesday night, was released on $2,000 bond.
"The officer detected several cues usually identified with an alcohol-impaired driver," Nashville, Tenn., police spokesman Don Aaron said.
Clark had glassy eyes, was very talkative and had a hard time keeping her balance when she was asked to stand outside her car, Aaron said.
The 32-year-old singer said in a statement that she was driving home from a business meeting when she was stopped. "I apologize, and deeply regret this incident," Clark said.
