KU professor to lead museum lecture tour

"Masterpieces of French Art: From the Middle Ages to Impressionism," a lecture tour by Kansas University French professor Ted Johnson, will be from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday.

Participants should meet in the foyer of the Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art at KU. Johnson will lead a tour and talk about masterpieces of French art, such as a Romanesque capital, a Claude landscape, a Baroque fountain group representing "The Spirits of the Stream," a Louis XV console table, Troyon's "The White Milker" and Monet's "Winter on the Seine, Vetheuil."

The tour is free and open to the public.

Women's Chorale slates concert

The Lawrence Women's Chorale will present a concert at 8 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt. Director is Sara Wentz.

The concert will feature a variety of sacred and secular choral music. The Lawrence Men's Chorale, directed by Kerry Marsh, also will perform.

Tickets are $6 for general admission and $5 for senior citizens and students. Tickets are available at the door.

Bruner to perform acoustic set

Singer-songwriter Rick Bruner will perform at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt.

The program will feature contemporary acoustic folk music. Bruner performs mostly on drums and guitar.

The 30- to 45-minute concert is free and open to the public.

Fashion show raises money for Lung Assn.

The American Lung Assn. and Talbots are having a spring fashion show and luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lawrence Country Club, 400 Country Club Terrace.

Local volunteers will model clothing from Talbots' spring and summer collections. Hank Booth will emcee. Special music and giveaways also will be featured.

Cost is $25 a person. Reservations are required and can be made by calling the American Lung Assn. of Kansas, (800) 272-9290.

Carrie Hall house open to visitors

Leavenworth  An open house will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the former residence of the late Madame Carrie Hall, 1007 S. Fifth St.

The open house will include lectures on Hall, a display of her garments and tours.

Hall, born in 1866, has a celebrated dressmaker, author, book collector, quilter and dollmaker. The three-story, six-bedroom home is now owned by Lt. Saverio Manago and his wife, Sara.

Van Go unveils JAMS mural

Youngsters in the Van Go JAMS program will unveil their mural from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Van Go headquarters, 715 N.J.

Sixteen youths ages 14-18 were hired to research, design and paint a mural measuring 115 feet by 16 feet on the side of Van Go headquarters. The 10-week project taught teens how to function as a team, make decisions and engage in respectful dialogue.

Garnett fair raises money for scholarships

Garnett  The 29th annual Garnett AAUW Square Fair will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Courthouse Square in downtown Garnett.

The fair will have about 100 exhibitors and a large food court. A quilt show and historical tours also will be offered.

The fair is free and open to the public.
