Texas alliance seeks poetry entries
The Texas Poetry Alliance is offering a $1,000 grand prize in its annual spiritual poetry contest, which is open to the public. There is no entry fee.
To enter send one poem 21 lines or less to Free Poetry Contest, 3412-A Moonlight Ave., El Paso, Tex. 79904. Interested individuals also can enter online at www.freecontest.com
The deadline is June 11. A winner's list will be sent to all entrants. The editors reserve the right to publish winning poems.
Westminster bell choir to perform Tuesday
The Westminster Concert Bell Choir, directed by Kathleen Ebling-Thorne, will present a concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 6001 W. 15th St.
The program will include original works for handbells by Buckwalter, Moklebust, Payn and Sherman; arrangements of hymn tunes, spirituals and folk songs; and transcriptions of classical favorites by Handel, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky and Bizet.
The 13-member choir is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, Princeton, N.J. The choir's 2000-2001 season includes a national concert tour during May and June to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Westminster, as well as a performance at Carnegie Hall and a live appearance on NBC TV's "The Today Show."
Hailed for its virtuosity, the Westminster Concert Bell Choir uses the largest range of handbells in the world.

Peanuts characters to visit toy museum
Kansas City, Mo. Â The Peanuts gang will be hanging out at the Toy and Miniature Museum this summer.
A showcase of the famous character's collectibles will be on display from May 31 to Oct. 27 at the museum, 5235 Oak St.
Laurie Hill of Peculiar, Mo., will share her collection of Snoopy items. She will make personal appearances with Snoopy from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on June 30, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 29 and Oct. 20.
The museum also is having the following events for children ages 3 to 12:
Â Linus Day on June 30 Â Children who arrive with their "security blanket" will be admitted free.
Â Lucy Day on July 21. Children who offer free advice at the ticket window will be paid 5Â¢ and admitted free.
Â Woodstock Day on Aug. 18. Children who dress hippy style get free love beads and free admission.
Â Charlie Brown Day on Sept. 29. Children who bring any Charlie Brown toy or picture of Charlie Brown will get in free.
Â The Day of the Great Pumpkin on Oct. 20. Children who bring a decorated pumpkin get in free and may enter their pumpkins in Snoopy's Pumpkin Patch contest.

White alligators on display at zoo
Kansas City, Mo. Â White alligators are now lurking at The Kansas City Zoological Park.
"White Alligators" features Pierre, a 7-year-old male measuring 7 feet in length and Fifi, a 3-year-old female measuring 4 feet. The alligators will be on exhibit this summer at the African Boathouse.
Visitors can view the alligators during regular hours Â 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Â through Sept. 30. Admission to the zoo is $6 for adults, $3 for children ages 3 to 11, and free for children under 3. The zoo is located off Interstate 435 and Gregory Boulevard in Swope Park.
