Scholar to talk about Georgia O'Keeffe

Wanda Corn, an internationally known scholar on 20th-century American art, will give two lectures next week.

Corn will present "Variations on a Theme: Georgia O'Keeffe's Serial Images" at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art at Kansas University. She will present "Being Georgia O'Keeffe: The Artist's View" at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, 4525 Oak St., Kansas City, Mo.

Corn is an art history professor at Stanford University. She earned a doctorate at the Institute of Fine Arts at New York University.

Both lectures are free and open to the public.

Award-winning poet coming to KC

Kansas City, Mo. � Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Maxine Kumin will read from her works at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in Mabee Theater at Rockhurst University, 1100 Rockhurst Road.

Kumin has published 12 books of poetry, as well as novels, short stories, essay collections and a memoir titled "Inside the Halo and Beyond," which describes her near-fatal horse-riding accident. Her latest poetry collection is "The Long Marriage."

Admission is $3 for the general public and $2 for students and senior citizens.

TPAC lists new winter-spring lineup

Topeka � Tickets are on sale for the Topeka Performing Arts Center's new Winter/Spring 2002 lineup.

The remaining shows in the "Best of Kansas City Jazz Series" are The Majestic Seven Swing Band, 3 p.m. Jan. 20; the Wayne Hawkins Trio, 3 p.m. March 3; The Todd Strait Group, with Julie Kelly, 3 p.m. March 24; and the Bradley Allen Quartet, with Rod Fleeman, 3 p.m. April 21. The Topeka Jazz Festival will be May 25-27.

Schooltime Theater performance include "Buffalo Soldier," 10 a.m. Feb. 21; "The Big Adventures of Stuart Little," 10 a.m. April 10; and "The Boxcar Children," 10 a.m. May 3.

Mulvane museum offers annual gift shop

Topeka � The Mulvane Women's Board Annual Holiday Cafe and Gift Shop will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday-Saturday at the Mulvane Art Museum at Washburn University, 17th and Jewell.

The lunch, which costs $6.50, features Pasta Fajoli soup, salad, bread, cheesecakes and beverages.

Gift items include sterling silver jewelry, wooden toys, pewter frames, Scottish clocks, travel accessories, hand-painted scarves, Christmas decorations and original artworks from area artists.
