Stone suffers aneurysm

Sharon Stone was under observation Monday at a San Francisco hospital after suffering what appears to have been a brain aneurysm.

The 43-year-old actress was hospitalized Saturday for bleeding on the brain, according to her publicist, Cindi Berger.

Stone's husband, San Francisco Chronicle executive editor Phil Bronstein, took her to a hospital emergency room because she was suffering severe head pain.

An angiogram showed the likely cause was a tiny aneurysm that required no treatment. Berger said Stone, who was resting comfortably, probably will remain hospitalized the rest of the week.

"I spoke to her, and she sounded great," Berger said.

Janet cancels tour

Janet Jackson canceled her European concert tour on Monday over concerns for the safety of her entourage following terrorist attacks in the United States.

"My European fans are among the most loyal, and I was very excited to share this show with them," Jackson said in a news release issued by her London press agent, Bernard Doherty.

"I have agonized over this decision," she added. "Like most people, the events of Sept. 11 have troubled me enormously, and I remain concerned about the foreseeable future."

The 35-year-old singer said the risks to her large tour entourage were too great to proceed with the European shows, which were scheduled for November and December in Britain, France, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland and Belgium.

"If anything happened to anyone on this tour, I could never forgive myself," she said.

Clinton graduated in June from Stanford University with a history degree.

Affleck clocked at 114 mph

Ben Affleck was stopped by sheriff's deputies after he was clocked driving 114 mph on a Georgia interstate, the actor's publicist said Monday.

Affleck, star of "Pearl Harbor," paid a $1,114 fine and was allowed to go on his way, publicist David Pollick said. Affleck was not arrested, he added.

Pollick said the 29-year-old actor, who was on vacation, was driving a black Cadillac when he was stopped about 10 p.m. last Wednesday by a Treutlen County deputy near Soperton. The speed limit is 70 mph.

Treutlen Sheriff's Deputy Sidney Love said Affleck followed a sheriff's deputy to the county jail, where the actor paid his fine and was released in less than 20 minutes.
