First season of 'Simpsons' heads to DVD

— Mmmm ... "The Simpsons" on DVD.

Fox Home Entertainment has announced it's releasing a three-disc boxed set of the first season of "The Simpsons" Sept. 25, with a list of extras that should please even the most rabid fan of TV's favorite nuclear(-plant) family.

"The Simpsons," which enters its 13th season Sunday, Nov. 4, made their first appearances on "The Tracey Ullman Show" and as shorts preceding the feature films "say anything ..." and "The War of the Roses." The first half-hour, "Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire," aired Dec. 17, 1989.

That episode, along with such first-season classics as "Krusty Gets Busted" and "Life on the Fast Lane," will be included in the DVD set.

The discs will also include commentary by creator Matt Groening, executive producer James L. Brooks and others, outtakes from an unaired version of an episode, a gallery of early sketches, original scripts with notes by Groening and the first "Tracey Ullman Show" short.
