Students' metalworks picked for Denver show

Metalworks by five Kansas University design students have been selected for "Future Prospects," an exhibition being held in conjunction with the Society of North American Goldsmiths annual conference in June in Denver.

The students are Kate Fanning, bracelet; Amanda Luiso, vessel; Jane Meinershagen, bracelet and brooch; Dan Saeger, cast sculptural piece; and Chester Schmitendorf, enamel bead necklace.

The Society of North American Goldsmiths publishes Metalsmith magazine.

Comedy show spoofs politics, news events

"Right Between the Ears," a national broadcast comedy show produced at KANU-FM 91.5, will take the stage at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. Saturday in Liberty Hall, 644 Mass.

The show will include a mix of topical takeoffs and satirical sendups. Some of the sketches feature Osama bin Laden getting hauled in front of TV's Judge Judy; the Fishing Guys visiting the Winter Olympics; Antonio Banderas pondering the war in Afghanistan; and the U.S. Army's new dress code.

Tickets are $12 for cabaret seats and $8 for balcony seats. They are available at the Liberty Hall Box Office, 749-1972, and Ticketmaster outlets, (816) 931-3330.

Professor's painting included in art show

Lawrence artist Tanya Hartman is showing her painting as part of the Eighth Anniversary Invitational Exhibition of Gaining Your Voice Through the Arts � Art for Life in Greenwich, Conn.

The exhibit opens Thursday and runs through March 15.

Hartman is an assistant professor of art at KU.

The exhibition focuses on recognizing, understanding and transcending suffering in the human condition through creativity in the arts.

Art faculty to show works in KU exhibit

Twenty-four Kansas University art faculty members will show their work Feb. 17 through March 1 at the Art and Design Gallery. The gallery is in the KU Art and Design Building.

An opening reception will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 17.

The artists are Jane Asbury, Phillip Blackhurst, Robert Brawley, Carol Ann Carter, Richard Dishinger, Norman Gee, Richard Gillespie, Robert Green, John Hachmeister, Tanya Hartman, Cima Katz, Michael Krueger, Gerald Lubensky, Judith McCrea, Yoonmi Nam, Robert Price, Roger Shimomura, Robert Sudlow, John Talleur, Elden Tefft, Peter Thompson, Nick Vaccaro, Maria Velasco and Robert Wright.

Gallery hours are from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Kansas City, Mo. � Lawrence artist Nancy Loo Bjorge will show her paper folding designs today through March 8 in Stocksdale Gallery at William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo.

An opening reception will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today.
