Screenwriters to read new script at Oldfathers

Mitch Brian and Kevin Willmott will give a staged reading of their screenplay, "Shields Green and the Gospel of John Brown," at 8 p.m. Saturday in Oldfather Studio, 1621 W. Ninth St.

The event is free and open to the public.

Story of Sacagawea comes to stage

The Seem-To-Be Players professional children's theater will present "Sacagawea: Shoshoni Bird Woman" at 1:30 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at the Lawrence Arts Center, 200 W. Ninth St.

Lauren Stanford will play Sacagawea. Other company members are Shawn Halliday, Piaf Latham-Winter-Green, Daemon Hatfield, Jason Ware and Harvey Williams. Director is Ric Averill.

Tickets are $6 for children and $8 for adults. The doors will open at 1 p.m., with a sing-along at 1:15 p.m.

Barn dance slated for Saturday night

The Lawrence Barn Dance Assn. will have a barn dance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lawrence Arts Center Dance Annex, 205 1/2 W. Eighth St.

A beginner's session will be at 6:45 p.m.

Caller is Terry Rouse, and music will be by the Euphoria Stringband. Members of the band are Reva Friedman-Nimz, Jim Krause, Dick Powers and Bart Smith.

Admission is $6 for adults and $2 for youths under 16.

Estonian musicians, singers coming to JCCC

Kansas City, Mo. � The Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir and the Tallinn Chamber Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Redemptorist Church, 3333 Broadway. The musicians and singers will be conducted by Tonu Kalijuste.

Company to present Shakespeare, Twain

Overland Park � The Acting Company will perform Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" at 8 p.m. Saturday and a stage adaptation of Mark Twain's novella "Pudd'nhead Wilson" at 2 p.m. Sunday in Carlsen Center at Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd.

Tickets are $25 and are available at the Carlsen Center Box Office, (913) 469-4445.

Woodworking show offers latest in tools

Kansas City, Mo. � The Woodworking Show will be Friday-Sunday at the Overland Park International Trade Center, 6800 W. 115th St.

Admission is $9 for adults and children 12 and under are free. Hours are from noon to 7 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
