Nordic Choir coming to Topeka church

Topeka � The Luther College Nordic Choir will perform at 7 p.m. Jan. 27 at First Baptist Church, 3033 S.W. MacVicar Ave.

The Nordic Choir will perform an a cappella program of sacred and secular pieces, including works by Heinrich Schutz, J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn and F. Melius Christiansen.

The event is free and open to the public. However, donations will be collected.

'Prairie' documentary slated at Haskell

A documentary of "Prairie" will be shown at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Haskell Indian Nations University.

"Prairie" is a piece based on the poetry of Carl Sandburg with costumes based on drawings by John Steuart Curry.

The film features the Prairie Wind Dancers, Paul Winter Consort, Winfield Regional Symphony, narrator Clayton Crawford and American Indian dancers during a performance last summer in Winfield.

The film was edited by Mark Von Schlemmer.

Graphic designer to talk at Spencer art museum

Paul Sahre, a graphic designer and educator who teaches at Parson School of Design in New York City, will give a lecture at 6 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Helen Foresman Spencer Museum of Art.

Sahre's work includes book jackets for Beacon Press, Knopf, Vintage, Little Brown, Verso and other publishers. His hand-printed posters publicize events such as the Soho Repertory Theatre in New York City and the Fells Point Corner Theatre in Baltimore.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

Country acts line up for Manhattan festival

Manhattan � Some of the biggest names in country music have already said they will be performing at the 2002 Country Stampede at Tuttle Creek State Lake north of Manhattan.

On the lineup are chart-toppers Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Kenny Chesney and Lonestar. Other acts include Aaron Tippin, Sara Evans, Montgomery Gentry, Phil Vassar, Jamie O'Neal, Trick Pony, Bellamy Brothers, Emerson Drive, Dustin Evans and Shevy Smith.
