Illiteracy book to raise funds for organization

Half Price Books has released the ninth edition of its "Say Good Night to Illiteracy" children's story book, which promotes family literacy, encourages creative writing and raises funds for literacy organizations, including the Metropolitan Alliance of Adult Learning in Kansas City, Kan.

The stories were chosen from more than 3,500 entries to Half Price Books' Bedtime Storybook Writing Contest, which is open to amateur writers. This year's 20 contributors from across the country range from students to homemakers to professionals in all walks of life.

Each bedtime story or poem is accompanied by a specially commissioned illustration.

The book, which retails for $4.98, is available at any Half Price Books location. The Lawrence store is at 1519 W. 23rd St.

Last year's release raised nearly $30,000 for literacy organizations across the nation.
