Three new movies open today to get a jump on the holiday weekend box-office grosses, and for whatever reason, they're all obsessed with using a colon in their titles.
First up is "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines." What could have been an unnecessary entry into the great sci-fi franchise turns out to be a worthy addition, with more sustained action sequences than "The Hulk" and "The Matrix Reloaded" combined. This time a 55-year-old Arnold returns to protect the adult John Connor against more lethal cyborgs from the future.
Speaking of unnecessary, there's "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White and Blonde." In this cash cow, the bubbly Reese Witherspoon reprises her role of Elle Woods, the pink-loving, shopping-obsessed lawyer who moves on to Washington to fight for animal rights.
And finally, DreamWorks unleashes its latest animated project, "Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas." Although it's a loose translation of the Arabian Nights classic -- loose enough to turn the Middle Eastern hero into some kind of Greco-Roman approximation -- it features some imaginative visuals and voice work by Brad Pitt in the title role.
