An Ohio family is about to get its 15 minutes of fame -- and maybe a new mom.
Actually, it will be about five hours over five weeks as the Mueller family stars in the newest network reality dating show, NBC's "Who Wants to Marry My Dad?" It premieres at 9 p.m. Monday.
The show features Don Mueller, 48, and his four children, who all live in the Glendale area -- Joe Mueller, 26, Karla Barela, 25, Chris Mueller, 22, and Heidi Mueller, 21.
The family was selected by producers after a nationwide search and flown to a Southern California mansion in May for three weeks of taping. The show, a spinoff of NBC's "Meet My Folks," set Mueller up with eight women in the house to date, with his children monitoring the goings-on.
It is the siblings who must eliminate a woman each week to find the one they want their dad to marry.
The show begins with a diverse group of 12 women who include an airline pilot and a former Miss USA. Halfway into the first episode, four are eliminated, and the Muellers get down to business with the eight finalists.
"I wouldn't use just the word 'fun.' It was emotional and stressful," said Mueller, now back at his home. "It was a lot more work than I ever signed up for. It became overwhelming. But overall it was a wonderful experience."
Mueller could not reveal how the show ends or if a wedding is in the works. But a producer said it concludes with a proposal.
"The kids pick the woman for dad, and dad gets down on one knee and proposes to that woman. We have an engagement," said Scott Satin, an executive producer for Nash Entertainment, the show's creator.
As for Satin, he's moving on to his next reality show. "I think 'Who Wants to Marry My Mom?' is right around the corner," he said.
