KU Theater director to teach tap lessons
The artistic director of University Theatre at Kansas University is going to do a little toe-tapping this summer to help raise money to build a new stage for KU's theater department.
John Staniunas will instruct people over 30 in the ways of tap this summer. Classes will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 3, 5, 10, 12, 17, 19, 24 and 26 in Room 209 Murphy Hall, 1530 Naismith Drive on the KU campus.
The fee is $80 for all eight lessons. Sign up in the University Theatre office, 317 Murphy Hall, or call 864-3381.
All proceeds benefit the Stage Too! fund drive.
Baker gallery features Kansas City artist
Baldwin -- A show featuring the work of Kansas City, Mo., artist JoEl Vogt will hang through June 20 at Art Affair, Baker University's student-operated art gallery, 622 High St.
The show features landscape paintings in oil and acrylic that depict the beauty of the Missouri Ozarks.
Vogt's work has been displayed in group and solo exhibitions. Her paintings hang in private and corporate collections in the Kansas City area, including those of the Sprint Corp. and American Century. She has been affiliated with Gallery North, Kansas City Artists Coalition and Art Options Gallery.
Gallery hours are 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
The gallery is owned by the university and operated by students. It features professional work by area and regional artists.
Topeka Art Fair features local artists
Topeka -- Eighty artists from 12 states will display and sell their works at the 11th annual Mulvane Mountain/Plains Art Fair Saturday and June 8 at Washburn University.
Works at the fair will include oil, watercolor, pottery, jewelry, photography and fiber. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 8.
The fair is the annual fund-raising event for the Mulvane Art Museum and is put on by the Friends of the Mulvane Art Museum.
The event also will feature live entertainment, food vendors and hands-on art projects for children.
Lawrence artists on the roster include Lori Hinrichsen, mixed media; Ryan Paget, ceramics; Kelvin and Kathryn Schartz, metal sculpture; Celia Smith, acrylics; Barbara Solberg, mixed media; and Jewell Willhite, acrylic.
