Area youths earn spots in Honor Recital

The talents of a dozen young area musicians will be showcased today during the Lawrence Arts Center's Honor Recital.

More than 45 musicians auditioned March 2 at the center, and three judges whittled the pack to 12. The winners will perform at 7 p.m. today at the Arts Center, 940 N.H. Donations will be accepted at the door to support next year's Honor Recital.

The 2003 Honor Recital winners are:

  • Ruilong Hu, violin, "Sonata No.3 in F Major, Allegro" by Handel
  • Jordan Crice, piano, "Concerto in C, K. 497" by Mozart
  • Emily Hamilton, vocal, "Black Swan" by Menotti
  • Michael Jordan, trombone, "Morceau Symphonique" by Guilmant
  • Kyle Chauvin, piano, "Estampes; Jardins Sou la Pluie" by Debussy
  • Alessandra McCoy, vocal, "Ah! Mio Cor" by Handel
  • Katy Kline, piano, "Concerto No. 20 in D Minor R.V. 466, Allegro" by Mozart
  • Oswald Backus V, double bass, "Concerto No. 2 in A Minor" by Dottesini
  • Lia DeRoin, marimba, "Rotation II" by Sammut
  • Flora Jiang, piano, "Suite de Danzas Criollas" by Ginaserta
