A report from Bloomberg says that Sony Corp., the second largest electronics company, will release the Playstation 3 this year to widen the lead it has on the home console market, siting a story from the Commercial Times.
This comes as a shock considering Sony will use a breakthrough "cell" processing technology that, in theory, will be 50 times faster than a Pentium 4. The technology is not even ready yet, and Sony made a statement this morning denying such rumors, saying that the cell technology is still in early development stage and that a release date and a name for the new console has not been decided.
We'll have more if it breaks.
