The latest in a long series of back-stabbing, back-story, backstage time-wasters, "Behind the Camera: The Unauthorized Story of 'Three's Company"' (8 p.m., NBC) attempts to recreate the tension on the set of the infamous '70s jiggle-TV smash.
We're supposed to care about this movie because former "Company" actress Joyce DeWitt was involved in its creation and provides a video prologue. It's clearly her attempt to get back at her former cast mate (and ThighMaster spokeswoman) Su-zanne Somers. Memo to Joyce: Let it go.
The new "reality" series "Surf Girls" (9:30 p.m., MTV) follows 14 competitive female surfers around the world as they vie for a spot in a professional showdown. "Surf" has the three key ingredients for a hit on MTV: flesh, slang and narcissism. When the bikini-clad girls aren't riding waves, they are talking endlessly about themselves.
The made-for-television chiller "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer" (8 p.m., ABC) offers a prequel to last May's Stephen King horror miniseries "Rose Red." Lisa Brenner stars in the title role. She's the mousy wife of a wicked turn-of-the-century Seattle oil tycoon. And, as if a bad marriage weren't bad enough, she's stuck with a haunted mansion that seems to swallow up its guests. "Diary" unfolds at a deadening pace that may inspire some viewers to check their own pulse.
Tonight's other highlights
Last fall, Whitney Houston was one dazed diva during her "Primetime" interview with Diane Sawyer. She should be in better form on tonight's episode of "Boston Public" (7 p.m., Fox). But, hey, it's a David E. Kelley show. Anything's possible.
Ray throws a half-baked bachelor party for Robert on "Everybody Loves Raymond" (8 p.m., CBS).
Meth-related murders on "CSI: Miami" (9 p.m., CBS).
Jay Leno and Katie Couric will change seats for the night, with Couric hosting "The Tonight Show" (10:35 p.m., NBC), and Leno taking the helm at "Today." Couric's guests tonight include Mike Myers.
The sports news series "Outside the Lines" (11 p.m., ESPN) will now air five nights a week.
Diet woes on "King of Queens" (7 p.m., CBS) ... Joe Rogan is host of "Fear Factor" (7 p.m., NBC) ... Dick Clark is host of "All ABC Bloopers" (7 p.m., ABC) ... Jenna Morasca, the winner of "Survivor: The Amazon" appears on "Late Show with David Letterman" (10:35 p.m., CBS).
