Sony made a huge announcement yesterday at the Electronics Entertainment Expo (E3) that they would be entering the handheld market in 2004 with their Playstation Portable (PSP).
While there is no price or solid date attached, Sony assures that it is truly in development. Nintendo fielded questions about it at their press conference and said they won't flinch at all.
Here are the projected specs direct from Sony-
UMD or Universal Media Device. This storage media is 60mm, half the size of a CD and has a capacity of 1.8GB.
ATRAC encoding support
NURB technology for rendering with full 3D polygons.
A widescreen LCD screen that is backlit.
3D sound, PCM, "fully reconfigurable."
MIPS 32-bit processor.
Memory stick for game saves and for GPS options.
CPU: 90 nanometers with a clock speed TBA.
USB 2.0 connection for PC, cellular phone or PS2.
We'll see next year once if images start to materialize.
