'Tis the season (for a saccharine overdose)

The holidays are upon us! Brace yourself for the bad holiday movies. First out of the box is "Full Court Miracle" (7 p.m., Disney).

Call me a Scrooge, but I tend to gag whenever a movie has the word "miracle" or "angel" in the title. And I'm always the first one out of the room when movies try to take a timeless story and make it groovy and relevant "for the kids."

That said, I was hardly prepared for the contrived, formulaic lameness of "Miracle," a movie that manages to mangle the ancient story of Hanukkah with a Capra-saccharine tale of a come-from-behind-victory by a ragtag Yeshiva basketball team.

And just when I thought I couldn't cringe any more, Disney informs us that "Miracle" includes music with a hip-hop beat that samples the traditional Hanukkah song "I Have a Little Dreidel." Gee whiz kids, it's a hip-hop hoop-dreams Hanukkah!

  • Is holiday entertaining on your horizon? Maybe it's time to redecorate your living room. HGTV unspools four consecutive shows filled with suggestions, beginning with "Designers' Challenge: Cozy Living Room" (8 p.m., HGTV). For the budget-conscious, there's "Decorating Cents" (8:30 p.m.), which features a Nantucket-style family room. "Design on a Dime" (9 p.m.) follows with ideas for a French-country family room, and "Divine Design" (9:30 p.m.) shows how you can animate a lifeless living room with the right paint jobs, fabrics and "wall treatments."
  • "The Kennedy Tapes Revealed" (7 p.m., Bravo) offers a documentary glance back at the Kennedy presidency, highlighting a series of brutally frank interviews his brother (and, at the time, attorney general) Robert Kennedy recorded only months after Nov. 22, 1963. Held in complete confidentiality, these tapes offer RFK's candid assessments of then-President Lyndon Johnson, as well as FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover, a man Kennedy calls "a psycho."
  • "NOW with Bill Moyers" (8 p.m., PBS) examines the increasing disparity between America's rich and poor and the fear that the middle class is rapidly disappearing.
