Few Battle of the Bands field as diverse and talented a crop of talent as the annual Farmer's Ball, the three-day show put on by KJHK 90.7FM.
Past winners like Kelpie, The Hardaways, Ghosty and Chebella! all benefited from the exposure the event afforded them early in their careers, while runners-up like Vibralux and Vitreous Humor went home with good memories and maybe a few free sub sandwiches.
This year's event continues in that diverse tradition, showcasing a one-man-hardcore band (This Is My Condition) and an old-time folk duo (Drakkar Sauna) amidst rock and hip-hop acts. Two bands -- The Capsules and Ike Turner Overdrive -- liked the experience so much last year that they decided to come back for another shot at the title.
Four bands from the Wednesday and Thursday portions of the Farmer's Ball (two each night) will advance to the finals Saturday, where they will compete for 20 hours of recording time at Black Lodge Studios in Eudora (second place wins time at Lawrence's "alibi6" studio).
