Fox finds romance in crime

Saturday, February 14, 2004

It's Valentine's Day, so cuddle up and watch "Cops" with someone you love! You can't accuse the folks at Fox of excessive sentimentality.

While cable networks offer Valentine's Day "chick flick" marathons, Fox has taken a conceptual chain saw to the holiday with a two-hour "Cops" special titled "Love Hurts" (7 p.m. today, Fox). The network promises 15 video-verite versions of wife battering, drunken disputes and other acts of domestic violence. This is a tad extreme, even from the folks who brought you "Bridezilla" and "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance."

Other Valentine's Day festivals include a four-episode mini-marathon of "The L Word" (8 p.m. today, Showtime). This stylish soap opera has already been picked up for a second season.

For those looking for more G-rated romantic fare, ABC will rebroadcast the 2002 animated treat "A Charlie Brown Valentine" (7 p.m. today, ABC).
