Gallery Painting: 'After the Storm'
By Sharon Riley

I know this road of glistening
childhood, fresh with puddles, a faded sun hissing
water away like the tick of time. On late afternoon
canvas, light melts to lavender and bluish gold as I
walk toward yesterday's damp, earthy
horizon.

Sky goes out forever again. I twirl a stick
for splashing and my long-dead dog bounds
away up the slight hill.

In a wash of sunset I turn,
sensing something,
someone,
just out of sight, and though I can't see
in the now fading light ...

I wave.
