6News video: Art a la Carte

Welcome to Art a la Carte. I'm Journal-World arts editor Mindie Paget.

Members of the Kaw Valley Quilters Guild have created a Sesquicentennial Sampler quilt to celebrate Lawrence's 150th anniversary. They'll unveil the quilt, which honors women who lived during the city's territorial period, during a 1 p.m. ceremony tomorrow at the Watkins Museum.

The Lawrence Arts Center is gearing up for its annual art auction. This year's featured artist is Lawrence sculptor Jim Brothers, who has donated a cast bronze work called "Promise." It and other donated pieces will be on view in a preview exhibition beginning Thursday at the arts center.

And on the hill, the first of four exhibitions by students graduating with their master of fine arts degrees came down today. The next show, which features students in metalsmithing and expanded media, opens next weekend in KU's Art & Design Gallery.
