While baby-sitting the new neighbors' children for the first time, Katie answered the phone and heard the chilling sound of silence.
She had heard od this house before. She had heard stories of things being moved out of place. She had heard that there had been unexplained noises throughout the house.
In the middle of her thoughts came a loud crash somewhere upstairs. Her heart started to race, like it does when you're watching a scary movie and you know something is just going to jump out of nowhere.
Scared but very curious she made her way upstairs with the children close behind her. She very slowly but cautiously walked through the dark and gloomy hallway. As she made her way to the first door, hear heart starting to race faster than it did before. She flew open the door as fast as she could and flipped on the light. She quickly scanned the room. She had never been up here before but nothing seemed to be out of place. She thought to herself she just has to look in two more room. She started walking to the next room. Again, her heart beating so hard she thought it would either jump completely out of her body or she would die at a young age from a heart attack. She threw open the door and flipped on the light. Again, seeing nothing out of place.
She wondered to herself what was behind door No. 3. She started walking to door No. 3 and completely stopped in her tracks. As she peered at the first room she went to the light was off and the door was shut. The kids had been in front of her the whole time she was positive they didn't do it.
She was sure she was going to see something behind this next door. As she tried to ignore the first door she walked to door No. 3. She slowly opened the door so she didn't see something. It was absolutely nothing. She felt a huge weight lift off her shoulders and felt relief. She left the door open and started walking toward the stairs she felt herself jump. Then she realized that both doors slammed shut at the same time. Scared with fright, she took off running down the stairs, the kids were close behind her.
She got down stairs and put on cartoons to not distract herself and the kids. She tried to concentrate hard on the T.V., her mind kept getting distracted by little noises. All of a sudden, she could hear someone walking upstairs. She could not stand to be in this house any longer. As her and the kids went outside her parents were just pulling in. She and the kids got in the car and she asked if they could take her home. As they were pulling out of the driveway she looked behind her and noticed that all the lights she left on were now off. She would never baby-sit at this house again.
