Progression
By Matthew W. Schmeer
Each day the face from
fifty-year-old photographs
becomes your face--
your father's slowly becoming
yours, yours becoming your father's,
until both enfold upon each other,
one face staring
from the photograph's mirror --
your eyes no longer alive,
your mouth not even a line,
as heredity's ghost whispers your name.
