Grants awarded for Baldwin project

The Lumberyard Arts Center Project in Baldwin City has been awarded a grant by the Ethel and Raymond F. Rice Foundation, in the amount of $25,000, for general construction funds on the building project.

Other recent contributions include a donation made by the Maple Leaf Festival Committee of nearly $1,400, a donation from the city of Baldwin of $1,000 and more than $4,000 from a recent mail campaign.

Sandy Cardens, who is co-founder of the project, said, "This is a tremendous response and shows the support this project is receiving from our community.

"We hope to begin phase one of construction after we reach the $200,000 plateau in donations."
