Prose, poetry sought for literary contest

The Kansas Authors Club is seeking entries for its 2006 literary contest. Both prose and poetry will be accepted.

Prose categories, at a 2,000 limit, include short stories, feature articles, memoirs, inspiration, stories for children, historical research and a theme contest, "Paint Your Canvas with Words." Also accepted are submissions for the first five pages of a book, which also requires a one-page novel synopsis.

Poetry categories include classic forms; free, rhymed and narrative verse (40-line limits), whimsy (20-line limit) and haiku.

Entries cost $3 apiece for club members are $4 for nonmembers. The postmark deadline is June 18. Mail prose entries to Margaret Shauers, 1411 12th St., Great Bend 67530, and poetry to Susan Kinney-Riordan, 2037 Roach, Salina 67401.
