KU dance department announces residencies

Kansas University's dance department will be host to two guest artist residents for the 2006-2007 school year.

Carl Corry's residency will be from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1. He spent more than 20 years with the Joffrey Ballet in New York City, rising from scholarship student to assistant ballet master between 1975 and 1995. He also has served as a faculty member of the Joffrey Ballet School and American Ballet Theater School summer intensive workshops.

In 2001, he received a Best Choreography Award from National Dance America.

Niurca Márquez will visit from Feb. 11 to Feb. 18. Trained in classical Spanish dance and flamenco, she has been with Bailes Ferrer since 2000 and performed as company member and soloist for Duende Ballet Español. Her own choreography has been featured in programs of the Cove/Rincon of Miami, the Hallandale Symphony and Florida International University's Department of Theater and Dance.
