Baroque music concert planned today

The Spencer Consort will present a performance titled "The Italian Style in Baroque Music" today at the Spencer Museum of Art Central Court.

Italian music became the most important influence in the Western world during the 17th century, and the program will document that influence in works from Italy, Germany and England. Included will be instrumental and vocal works by Giovanni Battista Buonamente, Johann Pachelbel, Henry Purcell, Johann Joachim Quantz, Marco Uccellini and Antonio Vivaldi.

The Spencer Consort performs on reproductions of instruments from the period, such as Baroque flutes, recorders, oboe, cello and harpsichord.

The concert starts at 2:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
