Welcome to Art a la Carte. I'm Journal-World arts editor Mindie Paget.
The 940 dance company ends its season this weekend with a bang - literally. Artistic director Susan Warden's newest piece, a fast-paced work titled "BANG," will conclude the New Works Concert. The program also includes four new dances by members of the troupe. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. today and Saturday at the Lawrence Arts Center.
Two Lawrence art traditions return this weekend. The whacky Art Tougeau Parade will snake its way through downtown, sporting everything from decorated children's bikes to elaborately decked-out cars. The wheeled-art cavalcade starts at noon on Saturday.
And South Park will be filled to the brim with 148 artists - a record high - on Sunday for the 45th annual Art in the Park. The longest-running art fair in Kansas is populated by artists working in everything from painting to jewelry, woodturning to art glass. The festivities run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at South Park.
