Good: Control, visuals, short load times
Bad: Limited replay, entirely stripped-down
On the consoles, MotoGP is a huge racing experience, filled with racer upgrades, two distinct modes of play, and a ton of tracks. On the PSP, however, MotoGP has been stripped down to an extremely limited mini-racer that features nearly none of the great bells and whistles of its console brethren.
The season mode has been whittled down to a bare-bones selection of tracks that you can race through as either a generic rider or an actual pro. All of the nice customization options from the console versions have been omitted. You simply race through 8 tracks, find out your ranking, and then try again next season.
I was a bit surprised to see the PSP analog stick actually functions quite well with this game. In other titles, it sometimes feels loose and unresponsive, but it's perfect in MotoGP. Unfortunately, the dual-brake system from the consoles is gone, as the square button is the only way to slow down. It's not a huge drawback, but it takes away yet another element from what MotoGP fans are used to.
Going from the extremely polished, hi-def 360 version to this is quite jarring, but it still looks nice on the portable. Outside of some blurry-looking textures close up, the tracks and riders look fine.
All in all, MotoGP for the PSP doesn't even feel like a full game. The thing I loved most about this series is the expansive season mode, wealth of options, and replayability. Unfortunately, all of these were lost in the transfer to the PSP.
