Tumbleweed
By Dan McCarthy
I drive along
the arrow road;
across the plain
tumbleweed rolls.
It comes for me,
sidling, shifting its velocity
to stay on course.
I brace like a fist for the crashing
impact of this plain
log against my foreign plates-
dander pops, scatters
across my hood.
