Style Scout: Nicholas Roman Xavier Garcia

Nicholas Roman Xavier Garcia

Hometown: The mean streets of suburbia, KCK

Age: 25

Time in Lawrence:The last seven years, on and off

Occupation and/or major:Double major in history and Latin American studies, professional student

Where was/what doing when scouted?

Dancing my way to breakfast

Favorite clothing store?

Armani because they occasionally have good stuff, and Zara (a Spanish clothing store in NYC) because they have tailor-fit clothing for more than just orka-mericans.

In Lawrence, I try to go into ATC and Wildman, but ATC has too much to choose from and Wildman is too selective. Either way, it makes it hard to find anything.

Other stores you frequent?

The Social Service League because it performs a community service and has been for a very long time. I like Love Garden, but I always trap myself there with too many things I want to buy. That store Eangee-they have some good local art there. I always want to buy one of those rust-prints they have.

How would you describe your style?

Vaccajero bushi-you know, like a Mexican cowboy samurai.

Favorite trend for this season?

Political awareness and the Latin American movement on campus. Maybe the campus thing has been going on a while and I just noticed it recently because I have been getting more involved, but maybe it is actually getting more geared up.

Least favorite trend right now?

Lack of foresight and planningp-politically and socially.

Where do you get your haircut?

I either cut it myself or have a friend cut it on barter.

Favorite coffee shop in Lawrence?

I like to drink tea, but not any place in particular. Although, at the Pig, you can pick yourself up and then put yourself down.

Favorite bar in Lawrence?

I like the link between the Jackpot and the Replay. Usually I get bored about halfway through the night at one or the other, but I get picked up by the other bar.

Is there anything you'd like to see less of in Lawrence?

Instead of people complaining about local businesses going under, they should look at the businesses going in that are not viable and only serve a niche market and cannot be sustained. Oh, and if you are trying to market to the young and hip, don't charge $400 for one item, because if your clientele is able to pay that, they are neither young nor hip.

Style = ?

The half-life of truth. It is caught somewhere in the middle of how you see yourself and how others see you.

Who's got style?

David Bowie. That man always has style. And maybe he is a real prick. Who knows? But maybe that's style, too.

Are you a happy American?

Yes. Though I may be displeased with the way things are, I know things can always be better.

Tell us a secret...

I'm not that much of a scoundrel. I know some people have this unrealistic idea of me, but really I'm a nice guy if you give me a chance. My heart is always in the right place.

Food or clothes?

You can't live on clothes, I'd want to eat. If I could eat anything I wanted, I would eat all the delicious fruits in the world.
