From what I've heard, the hip hop scene in Lawrence has slowed some in the last couple years.
Living in KC, I'm not sure if this is true. But I do know a vibe like I remember from Lawrence is alive at The Peanut every Sunday at Hip Hop and Hot Wings.
Those who remember Project Groove from a few years ago, will recall the spirit and energy of the night-up and coming local artists, touring groups, and the community all together in a weekly hangout.
The Peanut's atmostphere is friendly and full of characters-imagine a hip hop version of Cheers. However this environment is not just for those in the know. All those people interested in experiencing the atmosphere and energy-and the hot wings-are made to feel welcome. Next time you're in KC, hop off 35-N at Broadway and make a left-the smell of wing sauce will guide you. In the meantime, enjoy this aural sample...
