Save & Splurge

Luke Struckman, geography grad student, hombre de juevos, Mac mack

How do you save money?

"I eat at home as much as possible. The most affordable dish I cook is scrambled eggs. It's delicious and healthy. Sometimes I get crazy with the over easy-I'll take a slice of bread, cut a square out of it, and cook the egg inside of it. That way you can cook it over easy without it breaking AND you have something to soak up the yolk. My mom taught me that trick. So far as saving money otherwise, I like getting fruity drinks at bars-the colorful kinds in fishbowls. You can buy two of those and get completely smashed. It's the best bang for the buck. Another thing I'll do is borrow DVDs from somebody and copy them onto my hard drive."

What do you splurge on?

"I bought a MacBook. I could've got some $500 Dell, but I got the flashy Mac. The chicks dig it. Who would be checking me out in the coffee shop if I didn't have a Mac? If I'm at La Prima Tazza and there are hot chicks with Macs, then I can use mine as a conversation piece. I don't want to be like, 'Hey, check me out with my clunky Dell that runs on Windows '98!'"
