Name: Courtney Ricketts
Hometown: Kansas City
Time in Lawrence: 2 years
Occupation: Owner of the Magic Carpet Traveler
What were you doing when scouted: Working at the store.
Favorite places: The Magic Carpet Traveler, BoMo, and Blackbird Trading Post
How would you describe your style? Gypsy cowgirl
Where do you get your hair cut? The Green Room, by Suzi
Favorite trends? Lately I've been into short boots, layering, and swing jackets. I also really like feminine dresses with big belts.
Least favorite trends? In Lawrence, the whole short jean skirt, no tights, and Ugg boots look all year round. I also dislike the sleeveless look in the winter.
Favorite coffee shop? The Bourgeois Pig, mainly because I like sitting on the patio and I like the people that work there.
Favorite bar? The Bourgeois Pig, for all of the same reasons. You can usually find me there on Friday nights.
What would you like to see more of in Lawrence? I'd like to see more people supporting local businesses downtown, and more people dressed up when they go out and about.
What would you like to see less of? I'd definitely like to see less people wearing pajamas outside of the house, and sweatpants with words on the butt.
What made you want to open your own store? I love to travel, and wherever I go, I usually find great one-of-a-kind jewelry pieces. When I opened Magic Carpet Traveler, I definitely wanted to have unique jewelry from around the world, as well as clothing and travel accessories.
Who are your fashion influences: Cleopatra, Frida Kahlo, and Erykah Badu.
