Save & Splurge

Julie Diane Toplikar, Caterer, ceramics major who should be painting, futbolista, enjoys hanging out with the Vermontsters

How do you save money?

"One word-Checkers. Everything really is cheaper at Checkers. Where I work, I get to take home food from the events that I work. It's never ending-there's always food to take. It's great because I don't have to go to the grocery store a lot, but when I do, I go Checkers and it's really cheap. My boyfriend and I switch off on paying for meals, as well. We also alternate on everything from concert tickets to ice cream. Another thing is, over the past couple of months, I've been weeding stuff out of my closet that I've come to terms with and that I haven't worn in over a year. So, I've been selling my clothes a lot. It's also really great that my apartment is by campus, and my job is on campus, so I can just walk everywhere. That saves a lot on gas and makes my tank go further."

What do you splurge on?

"My boyfriend Keith, Free State, and sushi with Lydia. I also treat myself to items that I'll have for years. I just bought a basic, black pea-coat. Something that's an essential part of a wardrobe, I'll splurge on. Also-Brazilian waxes. Once a month. I like to keep it regular."
