Saunagram: Drakkar Sauna interviews themselves

Drakkar Sauna's self-produced podcast is something akin to an acid trip with the Smothers Brothers, but maybe weirder. Topics discussed include: playing music in “the Kansas,” the Mercury Seven astronauts, Jeff Stolz’s alleged stint in prison, and child-rearing. Industrious fellas, those Drakkar Saunas.

When we approached the local duo of Jeff Stolz and Wallace Cochran about a podcast regarding their new album “20009” (pronounced "two thousand-ousand nine"), they offered to cook one up themselves. The result is something akin to an acid trip with the Smothers Brothers, but maybe weirder. Topics discussed include: playing music in “the Kansas,” the Mercury Seven astronauts, Jeff Stolz’s alleged stint in prison, and child-rearing. Also included are tunes from “20009,” a song-recognition game, and a crying baby.

On the heels of their Louvin Brothers tribute record "Wars and Tornadoes," "20009" marks a return to established Drakkar Sauna subplots like spears, space, and old people. The music is less old-timey and more present-timey, rife with blaring trumpets, barroom piano tinkling, regal harmonies, and sing-along melodies. They'll perform it live in-person this Saturday at the Jackpot Saloon.

Godspeed, Drakkar Sauna. And thanks for taking that whole "interview" hassle off our shoulders.

Hmmm...an interview that I have to listen to rather than read is only interesting in theory.

Could no one be bothered to type this up? Nice picture up top with the boys in their specs.
