Marilyn Haines

Name: Marilyn Haines

Age: 19

Sign: Aquarius

Hometown: Salina

Time in Lawrence: 1 year and a half

Occupation: Student at KU, actress in KU Theatre's production of "How to Succeed in Show Business Without Really Trying".

What were you doing when scouted? Reading Russian history and drinking iced tea.

Favorite places? Zen Zero, Wild Man Vintage, Aimee's, and thrift stores in general.

How would you describe your style? It depends on how I feel when I wake up and is always changing.

Where do you get your hair cut? Hair Mode in New York City, mainly because my family and I go on vacation there about twice a year.

Favorite trends? Dresses/skirts and tights together, mixing colors and neutrals, studs, mixing masculine and feminine details, pendant necklaces, and wearing what you like.

Least favorite trends? Wearing stuff to impress other people or to fit in, and not being yourself.

Favorite coffee shop? I like Aimee's, because I'm always hanging out there and one of my friends works there and makes me food.

Favorite hangouts? On the weekends, I hang out at friends' houses, see movies at Liberty Hall, and lately I've been busy with play rehearsal.

What would you like to see more of in Lawrence? Late-night buses, more thrift stores, more grilled cheese sandwiches, and more places for people that are under 21 to hang out.

What would you like to see less of? Extreme weather and traffic.

Who are your fashion influences? I get a lot of inspiration from the 1960s and 1920s. I also am inspired by the girls in Andy Warhol's Factory, like Edie Sedgwick. I like the styling in "Virgin Suicides," and I'm inspired by Elizabeth Berkley's character in "Showgirls" - no joke.

People say I looke like: I've gotten Jennifer Love Hewitt more than I can count, or my mom.

What's in your purse? Slips of paper with Russian words on them, pepper spray, textbooks, Las Vegas bus tickets, my wallet, a metro card.

Tell us a secret: I was featured in Seventeen Magazine in 2007 as one of the Best Dressed Girls in America.
