Emily Meder
Age: 23.
Sign: Gemini.
Hometown: Hays.
Time in Lawrence: 5 years.
Occupation: Phoenix Gallery customer service assistant.
What were you doing when scouted: Being a shopgirl.
How would you describe your style: Annie Hall meets Cyndi Lauper.
Favorite trends: I really like comfortable clothes, and right now I like high-waisted stuff, big bracelets, and I’m a big fan of wearing a simple gray shirt with awesome accessories. On guys, I like a nice vintage button down.
Least favorite trends: I don’t like cargo shorts ... they are so ’90s. I’m also not a big fan of flip-flops and jeans, Ed Hardy shirts and booty shorts on girls that really shouldn’t be wearing them.
What would you like to see more of in Lawrence: I’d like to see more vegetarian restaurants, better bike courtesy, better fashion on guys and definitely more dogs.
What would you like to see less of in Lawrence: Less chain stores, less businesses closing on Mass. St. and less hatin’ all around.
Who are your fashion influences: My Grandma, because she let me raid her jewelry collection. I’m also really influenced by ’70s and ’80s fashion, and I try to always wear something comfortable.
People say I look like: A crazy pug lady.
What’s the best part about working downtown: Working downtown is great because everyone you want to see hangs out there.
Tell us a secret: I had a collage in the shape of a heart in my closet of Jonathan Taylor Thomas when I was younger. He was my first crush.
