Pop quiz: How many local record labels can you think of? We’re hard-pressed to think of more than handful these days. Yet Nathan Reusch and his label The Record Machine march onward, undeterred by the ambushes of music pirates and low budgets.
The Kansas City-based label is planning 10 releases for 2009 – by far its busiest year to date. On tap in the coming months: Max Justus, Perhapsy, The Parade Schedule, and an EP from Sam Billen (formerly of The Billions). The music therein represents a wide spectrum of sounds, from gritty electronic dance music to adventurous indie-pop.
Reusch brought new tunes from each of his label's artists along for our 35-minute podcast. Topics discussed include: lofty goals, realistic expectations, bad demo submissions, digital distribution, and making dreams come true.
