Name: Deb Rake

Age: 54

Hometown: Racine, Wisc.

Time in Lawrence: 20-plus years

Occupation: Wink eyewear, optical stylist

Best thing about working downtown: The rhythm of the streets and meeting new fantastic people everyday.

What would I like to see more of in Lawrence: bike lanes

What would I like to see less of in Lawrence: I’d like to see fewer hostilities against bikers and pedestrians, and fewer national chain stores.

Advice on picking out frames:

1. Follow your heart.

2. Step outside of your comfort zone.

3. Buy what you want, not what a friend or relative thinks you should wear.

4. Never buy something that you think will go with everything. It’s a sure way to end up with something boring.

Favorite trends: Big sunglasses

Favorite style of old-school sunglasses? To be honest, old school is out. There are so many fantastically beautiful new things to be tempted by every week. My sunglasses are special because they are limited edition, handmade, and we import them from France. And because they make me feel so pretty.

PRICE OF CLOTHING:

Jean skirt: Purchased at Target this spring for $20.

Chamis and sweater: I got them at the Gap this spring during the family and friends sale around $35.

Shoes: El Naturalista, purchased at Browns last year for $150.

Watch: Swatch, a gift that I’ve had for about a year.

Sunglasses: Alain Mikli Wink eyewear from Wink for $550

Hair: Roxanne Klaus at Static Hair Salon
