The singer/songwriter known as St. Vincent releases her anticipated second album "Actor" today. Formerly a guitarist for Sufjan Stevens and The Polyphonic Spree, Annie Clark's 2007 album "Marry Me" was a stunning debut that crammed more pathos into a CD-sized package than Joanna Newsom. Evoking artists like Kate Bush and Feist (but sounding entirely unique), Clark 's unorthodox guitar style and adventurous arrangements never cease to amaze.
"Actor" is currently streaming at Spinner and Pitchfork. Check out the Nine Inch Nails-esque squalor of "Marrow" and the dreamy "Laughing With A Mouth of Blood."
St. Vincent is currently on tour, but the closest she's scheduled to come to Lawrence is a June 3 show in Omaha.
Also look for new releases by Conor Oberst and the Mystic Valley Band, Peaches, and New York Dolls this week.
