“I pretty much just pulled it out of my ass,” says local songwriter Rusty Scott of the title of his new album “Yonder Goes the Light.”

Scott has a similar explanation—if any—for his lyrics, which explore themes of family and childhood and adventuring. A native of northern Missouri who currently resides in Kansas City, Scott hooked up with engineer Chris Crisci (of Old Canes and the Appleseed Cast) to help him produce his debut record. He played all the instruments on it—guitar, drums, banjo, harmonica, etc.—save some trumpet performances by his friend Kyle Robinson, who currently joins him onstage along with members of Ample Branches. Scott’s down-home songs toe the line between folk, rock, and bluegrass, working their way into your subconscious with easygoing melodies and old-fashioned instrumentation.

Yonder Goes the Night is an awesome album, I love every song on it. Can't wait to hear the next one Rusty will do.
