Style Scout: Rikki Kite

Converse were $7 at TJ Maxx in Missouri about 7 years ago. Levi's and shirt from TJ Maxx in Lawrence last year for about $7 each. Bakelite bracelets from ebay about 9 years ago for a few bucks. Glasses from Crandon & Crandon about 5 years ago (insurance paid).

Rikki Kite
Age: 38
Hometown: Lawrence
Occupation: Mom and Associate Publisher of Linux Pro Magazine

What Were you doing when scouted? Working downtown.

How would you describe your style? Somewhat retro and mostly age-inappropriate.

Necklace from Early Jewelry last year for about $25.

Favorite fashion trends? I lean toward classics — cotton tshirts, Levi's, Converse, Western snap-shirts, or '50s-style dresses and skirts. And I always love a good leopard print and rhinestones.

Least favorite fashion trends? I hate seeing people's boxers or thongs hanging out, tiny dogs carried as accessories, skimpy clothing, and stiletto heels in the middle of the day on Mass. street.

Tattoos? A tattoo of my 2 cats and cherry blossoms from Dave Lum in Austin in 1991. A couple of Big Daddy tattoos — my "Mom" tattoo and flowers on my leg. My most recent one was done by Scott at Mercy Seat last year — it's a lucky horseshoe, and it seems to be working.

What are your favorite Lawrence summer activities? Grilling out, going to the Farmer's Market or the pool, events downtown, riding bikes with my girl gang, drinking on the Free State patio, and Sunday afternoon shows at the Replay.

What would you like to see more of in Lawrence? Talented buskers who never play 'Knocking on Heaven's Door'.

What would you like to see less of in Lawrence? Buskers who ever play 'Knocking on Heaven's Door' or just shake one maraca.

Who are your fashion influences? Exene Cervenka from X and Mary Huff from Southern Culture on the Skids.

If you help me resolve once and for all my Jaunty Jackalope/Firefox issues (frequent lack of sound in any application & frequent lack of video in youtube/hulu/etc..) I will gladly subscribe to your new Ubuntu User magazine. I need to be able to play my bootleg Maraca Girl mp3s at will.

P.S. If I do not respond right away it's because I'm in my attic looking for my Use Your Illusion II tape. Thanks.

@meganstuke: I agree. It's nice to see someone in their 30's. She looks like Natascha McElhone, Karen from Californication.
