Lady Gaga is the new freak du jour of American pop culture. She’s the (slightly more) female Marilyn Manson of the ‘00s, with a dash of having-sex-with-Vanilla-Ice-in-a-soft-core-porno-book-made-of-metal-era Madonna.
She’s the blood and bubble covered poster girl of moral transgression in the post-Brittney era, a real Johnny Rotten come lately. And as someone who’s basing her career on shock stunts of diminishing returns, the inevitable backlash is mounting. Even outer space glam-wad Adam Lambert probably thinks she’s an over the top flash in the pan. “That’s a bit much,” probably says Adam Lambert with an AutoTuned sigh, sitting on a human throne of leather servants, from his floating disco in the heavens.
But that’s not to say you can’t base a lasting career on being weird. The gold standard for cuckoo bananas sustainability is of course Christopher Walken. Here now is Christopher Walken showing Lady Gaga how it’s done by reading her own song to her. (Hat tip to corduroypants!)
