As of today, the area radio station broadcasting at 92.9 FM is changing format from "The X — Kansas's Rock Alternative" to "The Bull — 20 in a Row Country." The station's new website is bull929.com (not to be confused with a 92.9 The Bull in Yakima, Wash.). The change was announced today in the following press release:

PRESS RELEASE: After recognizing an unsatisfied desire in North East Kansas, Great Plains Media of Lawrence is set to fill a void. On Thursday, October 8th, Great Plains Media will launch the all new 92.9 The Bull. The Bull is designed to give radio listeners in the Lawrence, Topeka and Kansas City an opportunity to enjoy today’s Hottest Country Hits from a station free of corporate influence. The privately owned KMXN, licensed to Osage City, KS, will be known as 92.9 The Bull and pride itself on 20 country songs in a row, 929 song weekends and requests on the Bull Horn at 830-9929.

In addition to country music favorites like Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Carrie Underwood and local sensation Sarah Buxton, The Bull will feature the nationally recognized Big D and Bubba morning show. Chris Merrill, formerly Merrill in the Morning on sister station Lazer 105-9 will also pick up afternoon on-air duties. The air staff will be rounded out by a new voice on radio in North East Kansas; Amber Lee will be heard every morning after the Big D and Bubba Morning show and continue through the lunch hour. Amber will also assume the managerial title of Program Director.

Great Plains Media, the local leader in advertising and marketing strategies, has listened to the businesses in North East Kansas. Contrary to stereotypes, Country Music Radio listeners fit a more balanced demographic than most any radio music format. The all new 92.9 The Bull plans on being more than just a Hot Country Music radio station. In addition to the 20 song in a row guarantee, The Bull will feature Free State football games and maintain an active roll in the community. The Bull has already signed on to participate in Merrill’s Third Annual Bras Across the Kaw breast cancer awareness display, October 15th through the 25th.
