How do you save money?
"Honestly, I'm terrible at saving money, but I'm trying to get better. I'm a student, so I take advantage of activities on campus for students that are free or cheap. I keep track of my spending online with my bank, and try to stick to a budget. When grocery shopping, I pay attention to unit pricing to see what's really the best deal—bigger packages don't always mean a better deal. I also do some of my shopping on the internet, because even with shipping some items can be cheaper than going to the store. I'm lazy and it saves money, so win-win. I don't drive, so I walk or take the bus to get places. Most of my favorite items of clothing were bought secondhand, which means I also get the added bonus of smelling like a musty old lady for a few weeks until it finally washes out.'"
How do you splurge money?
"My weakness is buying shirts online at places like Threadless. I also love traveling, so I try to save up for a vacation every summer to go somewhere new or different, even if it means staying in cheap hostels where I'm afraid I'll pick up a nasty case of bedbugs. Staying in places like that also means you get to meet interesting people. Last summer, I met a man who claimed he wrote the British version of the Guinness Book of World Records for football, introduced football to Europe, was a NBA player and was an Olympic trainer."
