Chloe Jones (and The King)

Chloe Jones

Age: 26.

Sign: Cancer.

Hometown: Lawrence.

Time in Lawrence: A million years.

Occupation: I teach English courses at KU and at the Kansas City Art Institute.

What were you doing when scouted? Single-handedly constructing the new Love Garden space.

How would you describe your style? Cripple-chic.

Who are your fashion influences? Aaron and Kendra Marable.

What are your favorite fashion trends? There are all these men around town wearing awesome glasses. This is super-attractive to me. Kevin Corcoran, Daniel Smith, Bobby Baumann, Oscar Allen Guinn and John Bergwell get my vote for the “Hot Dudes in Glasses” hall of fame.

What are your least favorite fashion trends? The “I just stepped off of a yacht and was too busy making important stock trades to change my clothes” look. What are you thinking, frat boys? You are 19 and live in Kansas. We know you don’t have a yacht. Boat shoes are kind of cool, though.

What would you like to see more of in Lawrence? Rich benefactors.

What would you like to see less of in Lawrence? Parking tickets.

People say I look like: The child of Beyonce and Danny Devito.

Tell us a secret: I think Brad Shanks is the most stylish man in town.

What do you like most about back-to-school season? I love back-to-school time because that means that Bobby Baumann will take me to Target and get me a new pencil case and Elmer’s glue and some sensible shoes. Sometimes he even lets me ride in the shopping cart. Love you, Bobby!

Is your "teacher style" different from your regular style? My teacher clothes have a lot of coffee spilled on them. My regular clothes have a lot of beer spilled on them.

Shirt: Unknown brand, gift from my mom seven years ago.

Jeans: Urban Renewal, purchased in Boston for a dollar one year ago.

Shoes: Chuck Taylors, purchased four years ago for $30.

Watch: Vintage Hamilton 10K gold retirement watch from the ’70s (with this engraving: “Presented by Ford Motor Company to S.B. Pentecost on his 35th Anniversary. 1935-1970. (It is then signed) Henry Ford, Jr.”) purchased last week at an antique mall in Los Angeles for $100. This is my favorite material item that I own.

Tool Belt and Drill: Stolen from Aaron Marable and Edmond Stansberry (the real artists/craftsmen responsible for the new Love Garden space).
