Two Asian restaurants, Mexican grill, shoe store set to join Lawrence dining and retail scene

A new 23rd Street restaurant serving a variety of food from across Asia is now open.

The Oriental Bistro and Grill, 1511 W. 23rd St., opened in the former space of Jade Mongolian BBQ.

Manager Alan Kao said the restaurant has a pan-Asian theme with dishes from China, Korea and Vietnam, plus a full sushi bar.

The Iowa Street corridor also will be getting an Asian restaurant.

The Tryyaki Noodle and Sushi Buffet is opening at 821 Iowa, the former home to Club Axis.

The restaurant is affiliated with the Tryyaki restaurant at 701 W. 23rd St., according to an employee of the restaurant.

A new Mexican restaurant is opening in the former home of a Mexican restaurant near 23rd and Iowa.

Rodeo Grill, 2016 W. 23rd St., has announced it will open Oct. 1.

The business, which advertises “Mexican cuisine with an American influence,” is in the former home of Ixtapa.

And finally, according to a sign in the window, a new shoe store is opening in the former Kief’s music store, 823 Mass.

According to the sign and a builder working on the site, Foxtrot Shoes is planning to move into the location. Other details weren’t immediately available.
